New England Roof Update
A failing asphalt roof replaced with an architectural shingle system, new underlayment and ice-and-water protection built for Cape Cod storms.
Project Overview
Following wind damage that lifted the original shingles, we documented the roof for insurance, replaced it with an architectural shingle system and upgraded the underlayment and ventilation.
High winds had lifted and creased the original three-tab shingles across the front slope, and the decking showed early rot along the north eave. Rather than patching again, we documented the condition for the homeowner’s insurance review and recommended a full replacement.
The new system uses architectural shingles rated for higher wind, a synthetic underlayment across the entire roof deck, and ice-and-water membrane extending well past the eaves and into every valley and behind the chimney.
We also corrected attic ventilation — the previous setup was inadequate for the roof area — and replaced the step flashing at the chimney. The result is a roof that performs better than the original and holds up better in the next storm season.
Key Outcomes
- Documented wind damage for insurance
- Architectural shingles, high wind rated
- Ice-and-water membrane at eaves and valleys
- Attic ventilation corrected
- New step flashing at the chimney
- Full tear-off and deck inspection
Why This Project Matters
The difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails is almost always in the details that are easy to skip. On this project we addressed structure and drainage before any finish work, so the visible improvements rest on a foundation that will hold through Cape Cod’s freeze-thaw cycles and coastal summers.
